How to Reset a Blink Video Doorbell & When You Should

Press the reset button at the back of the doorbell until a red light flashes to reset it. There are two types of reset, including soft and factory reset. Soft reset focuses on removing the batteries for five seconds and then putting them back. Factory reset involves removing the device from the Blink app, holding the reset button, and then re-adding the device to the app. Make sure to reset the device for software glitches, problems with live view, and poor audio. Soft reset resolves the common issues of delayed notifications and when the device appears offline. Check the internet connection, transformer compatibility, and firmware updates before factory reset.

When Should You Reset Your Blink Video Doorbell?

Here are the four common problems that lead to the doorbell reset:

  1. Doorbell won’t connect: Doorbell does not connect to the sync module or Alexa. This problem often occurs due to a poor wifi connection. Install the 2.4 GHz network and keep all the devices within 100 meters for better connectivity. Reset the doorbell if this does not work to eliminate glitches and errors.
  2. Live view or motion detection: Live view stops working due to low battery, unstable wifi, and software glitches. Try to resolve the problem with 1.5V non-rechargeable lithium batteries. Check the settings from the Blink app and enable motion detection. Set specific zones for precise alerts. Perform a complete factory reset if the problem persists after all these fixes.
  3. Notifications fail: Check wifi signal strength and app permissions to receive the alerts on time. Soft reset resolves this issue. Check the battery, app settings, and router for errors before performing a reset.
  4. Device appears offline: The doorbell device appears offline in the Blink due to a poor power supply. Make sure to update the firmware regularly and clear up the storage for smooth functionality. A factory reset removes all the custom changes and sets the device to default.

What Should You Do Before Resetting the Doorbell?

Make sure to create a backup footage and check the battery level. Replace the batteries if its low and restart the router to solve connectivity issues. Update the Blink app and check for firmware updates to resolve delayed notifications. Clear up the storage and enable the motion detection from app settings if the device does not detect anything. Poor wifi connection leads to poor live view, distorted voice, and failed notifications. Install a compatible transformer of 16-24V and a 2.4GHz wifi network. Follow the on-screen instructions and re-add the device in the Blink app. Check the app permissions and customized settings before performing a factory reset. Make sure to remove the device from the app to avoid being locked into your account.

Where Is the Reset Button on a Blink Video Doorbell?

Find the reset button at the back of the doorbell above the battery. Remove the doorbell from the mount first and use a paperclip or pen to press this button. Hold it for 15 to 30 seconds until the red light flashes. Re-add the device in the Blink app and follow the on-screen instructions to avoid issues.

How to Perform a Soft Reset on Blink Video Doorbell

Remove the doorbell batteries for 15 seconds or 2 minutes to perform a soft reset. Hold the reset button for 5 to 10 seconds and then wait for the device to reconnect automatically.

How to Perform a Factory Reset on Blink Video Doorbell

Hold the reset button for 30 seconds until the red light flashes for a factory reset in Blink doorbells. Remove the doorbell from the mount for a reset, and it erases all the video footage, customized voice commands, and settings.

How Long Does It Take to Reset a Blink Doorbell?

Soft reset requires two minutes, and factory reset takes 5 minutes to reset in Blinkk doorbells. Account removal also takes two to three minutes in the Blink app when transferring ownership.

How to Reconnect Blink Doorbell After a Reset

Check the doorbell device for the red light and replace batteries if required. Delete the device before resetting the factory, and go to the Blink settings to add a new device. Tap on the “+” icon in the right corner to add a new device and scan the QR at the back of the doorbell.

What Problems Can a Reset Fix?

A reset fixes the doorbell offline errors, device not found, and poor internet connection glitches. It keeps the device in setup mode and ready to pair with a new device. Reset removes the random freezing of the doorbell, unresponsive app commands, and firmware errors. It also resolves motion detection issues and poor audio despite all the fixes. Resetting factors is important when transferring devices or changing the router or wifi.

What Problems Can’t Be Fixed by Resetting?

Resetting the factory does not help with depleted batteries, component damage, or washed image quality. It does not fix the signal strength, internet upload speed, and band incompatibility. Avoid resetting if the device is stolen, the cloud subscription ended, or Blink’s service is down. Bricked firmware updates create major doorbell issues, and they require technical assistance instead of a reset.

How to Avoid Resetting Your Blink Doorbell Frequently

Keep the doorbell well-maintained to avoid these common problems. Use 1.5V non-rechargeable lithium batteries, a strong wifi connection, and updated apps. Keep firmware updated and monitor the doorbell health and signal bands from the Blink app. Minimize the brick obstructions from the router and keep the sync module within 100 feet of distance.

When Should You Contact Blink Support Instead?

Contact Blink support when the doorbell does not turn on even after the reset, and the red light doesn’t respond. A distorted voice and poor live view need technical assistance or replacement if the device is under warranty.

My name is Ricky and I have been a mechanical engineer for 25 years. My 3D-printing journey started when I purchased my first doorbell camera. Once I installed it, I knew I needed to do something different. I wanted to see my doormat where delivery drivers would bring my items and I didn’t want to scroll through all the events. Due to my dissatisfaction, I started designing my own doorbell mounts. After some trial and error, I finally came up with the perfect mount solutions to meet multiple issues. We guarantee we have a doorbell mount on our shop to meet your specific concern.
