What to Do If Your Google Nest Doorbell Keeps Going Offline

Check the Wifi signal strength, doorbell power supply, and router settings if the doorbell keeps going offline. Weak connection, ignoring firmware updates, and an incompatible transformer lead to doorbell disconnection errors. Go to the Google Nest service status to check software updates. Restart the battery doorbell with a pin at the back for 5 seconds until the light turns white. Use a wifi extender or replace the router if the problem persists after following all steps.

How to Check the Doorbell’s Connection Status

Go to doorbell settings and navigate to the Network or Wifi connection for technical details. Google Home App sends an alert when the doorbell goes offline or disconnects. Pulsing Blue light at the front of the doorbell indicates that it is ready to pair, and solid white shows it’s active and connected to Wifi. Green light shows the doorbell is getting charged, and no light is a sign of a dead battery. Nest App and Google Home App also show the doorbell connection status.

How to Improve Wi-Fi Signal Strength

Install the latest Nest wifi router close to the doorbell. Set up the router with 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz according to the doorbell model. Avoid using MAC addresses or filtering in the router. Enable DHCP and remove all the metal and bricks that interrupt the signal strength. Set up the Smart Hub or Google Assistant within 10 to 15 feet of the router for the best alerts. Use the wifi extender to increase the signal strength.

How to Restart or Reconnect the Doorbell

Use a pin and hold it in the hole at the back of the battery doorbell for 5 seconds. The doorbell restarts and reconnects automatically when the light turns white. Follow the similar steps to restart the wired doorbells and hold the pin for 10 seconds. Don’t hold for too long, as it resets the doorbell factory and all the previous recordings and features vanish.

How to Check Power Supply Issues

Google Home App sends an alert of "Insufficient Power" when the power supply goes down. Look at the charging status and battery of the battery doorbell to resolve this issue. Make sure the battery is above 50% to avoid connection errors. Verify the compatibility of the transformer for wired doorbells. They require  16 and 24 volts AC (V AC) to record and function. Look for the circuit breaker to be ON and inspect the wiring for collision. Make sure to turn off the electric supply before handling the wires.

How to Update Firmware and App

Open Device settings from the Google Home App and check for the firmware software version. Firmware gets automatic updates, and the doorbell installs them under a good wifi connection. Update the Google Home App from the Apple or the Play Store. These updates fix the bugs and connection errors.

How to Prevent the Doorbell from Going Offline in the Future

Here are the five tips to prevent the doorbell from going offline in the future:

  1. Update Router Firmware: Make sure the router has the latest firmware and updates regularly.
  2. Reboot Monthly: Restart the router at least once a week to avoid troubleshooting. This process clears the cache and bugs from the router.
  3. Use Wi-Fi Extenders: Use the wifi extenders if the route is far from the doorbell. Make sure the doorbell gets a 2.4 or 5 GHz signal strength compatible with its model.
  4. Avoid Harsh Conditions: Use the silicon covers or mount brackets to protect the doorbell from extreme hot or cold weather. They protect the doorbell from dirt accumulation and UV radiation that damages the camera lens.
  5. Monitor Signal Strength: Run a speed test on any website or go to the technical details of the Nest doorbell from the Google Home App to check the signal strength.

My name is Ricky and I have been a mechanical engineer for 25 years. My 3D-printing journey started when I purchased my first doorbell camera. Once I installed it, I knew I needed to do something different. I wanted to see my doormat where delivery drivers would bring my items and I didn’t want to scroll through all the events. Due to my dissatisfaction, I started designing my own doorbell mounts. After some trial and error, I finally came up with the perfect mount solutions to meet multiple issues. We guarantee we have a doorbell mount on our shop to meet your specific concern.
