How to Connect Google Nest Doorbell to Wi-Fi in Minutes

Connecting the Google Nest doorbell to Wifi is important to get alerts, video recordings, and access to the live camera. The doorbell provides motion alerts when a person, vehicle, or event happens according to the customized settings. Poor wifi or connection problems make it hard to stay updated when away from home. Follow the right setup guide for the new doorbell and the existing one to connect it to wifi quickly.

What You Need Before Starting

Here are the four things required before connecting to Wifi:

  1. Stable Wi-Fi Connection: Make sure to install a stable wifi connection of recommended range (2.4 or 5GHZ). Nest doorbell video lags when the Wi-Fi connection drops or creates issues. Avoid using a hotspot when connecting and set up the router near the doorbell for better signal strength.
  2. Google Home App: Install teh Google Home App to connect the new doorbell with wifi. Make sure the app the updated and log in to the home page.
  3. Nest Doorbell Device: Nest's doorbell device is a prerequisite, as it's going to connect with Wifi.
  4. Google Account: Make sure to have a Google account for quick syncs and to link devices.

How to Power On the Google Nest Doorbell?

The Google Nest doorbell (wired) starts working when the power supply is turned on. Pulsing white light shows that the doorbell is starting, blue shows that it is ready to set up with the Google Home App and Wifi. Solid white light indicates that the doorbell (battery) is fully charged and can be unplugged. Press the reset button for five seconds to turn on the battery-powered Nest doorbells.

How to Open and Prepare the Google Home App?

Launch the Google Home app and sign in with your Google account credentials.. Make sure to turn on the Bluetooth to find the nearby devices automatically. Toggle on all the necessary permissions and launch the app.

How to Add the Doorbell to the Google Home App?

Tape the “+” icon in the top left corner and navigate to the setup device. A new interface pops up with a “Set up new devices in your home” and click it. Choose a doorbell option after it and tap next to connect it with Wifi.

How to Connect the Doorbell to Wi-Fi?

Select the nearby wifi router or Nest wifi router after scanning the QR code on the bottom of the device or in the installation guide. Enter the correct password and wait for successful setup. Make sure to have a strong wifi connection for a smoother setup.

How to Test if the Connection Is Successful?

Open the Google Home App and try to see the live doorbell camera. Access the recordings and communicate through a two-way audio system. A playback without any lags and buffer sis a sign of successful wifi setup. Check it for at least 5 to 10 minutes to see if the connection drops or the doorbell disconnects immediately.

What to Do If the Doorbell Won’t Connect?

Install the router near the Nest doorbell to avoid connection issues. Restart the Google Home App and check if the charging is working to avoid connectivity issues. Make sure to update the apps if they need and upgraded and reconnect again.

How to Change Wi-Fi Connection?

Go to the Google Home App and tap on the settings. Click on the Wifi from device information and tap Forget this network. Follow the same steps to connect again from home. This technique works for a new router with the same name and passwords as the previous one.

Remove the doorbell from the Google Home App when setting up teh new router with a different name and password. Go to device information and hold it to remove the device. Make sure to save the previous video history before removing the device. Follow the same steps from home to the “+” icon and device to set up the doorbell again with a new Wi-Fi connection.

How to Maintain a Stable Wi-Fi Connection After Setup?

Keep the router at 15 feet of distance and remove the things that block and weaken the signal strength. Install teh wifi with 2.4 to 5 GHZ bands to avoid lags and test the wifi speed regularly. Use the mesh network in large and wide homes. A mesh network provides better coverage with multiple access points and nodes. Nest doorbells have a Quality of Service (QoS) feature, which means they perform smoothly even when recording or communicating with the people on the front door.

My name is Ricky and I have been a mechanical engineer for 25 years. My 3D-printing journey started when I purchased my first doorbell camera. Once I installed it, I knew I needed to do something different. I wanted to see my doormat where delivery drivers would bring my items and I didn’t want to scroll through all the events. Due to my dissatisfaction, I started designing my own doorbell mounts. After some trial and error, I finally came up with the perfect mount solutions to meet multiple issues. We guarantee we have a doorbell mount on our shop to meet your specific concern.
