How to Identify Your Ring Doorbell Model (2025–2026 Guide)
Ring just released an entirely new lineup — and their naming history is confusing. Here's how to find exactly which doorbell you have, and get the right mount the first time.
If you've ever stared at your Ring doorbell and thought "Wait — which one is this exactly?" — you're not alone. It's the single most common question we get here at DoorbellMount.com. Between rebranding entire product lines, releasing new generations with nearly identical names, and retiring models without much fanfare, keeping track of what's what has become a full-time job.
And Ring just made it more complicated. In 2025, they launched an entirely new 2nd Generation lineup — including the first-ever battery-powered 4K doorbell — all featuring their new "Retinal" camera platform.
This guide cuts through all of it. By the end, you'll know exactly which Ring doorbell you have, whether it's wired or battery-powered, and which mount at DoorbellMount.com fits your specific model.

Why Getting Your Model Right Matters
Every Ring doorbell has a unique mounting hole pattern, body width, and body depth. A bracket designed for a Ring Wired Doorbell Pro will not fit a Ring Battery Doorbell Pro — even though the names sound almost identical. A mount for the old 1st Gen Battery Doorbell Pro will not fit the new 2nd Gen version.
Ordering the wrong mount is the single most common mistake customers make, and it almost always comes down to model confusion. Getting this right before you order saves you time, return shipping hassle, and installation headaches.

Shop Ring Doorbell Mounts →Step 1: Find the Model Name on Your Device
-
1Check the back of the doorbell
Remove it from its bracket (press the release tab at the bottom or unscrew the security screw) and flip it over. The model name is printed or engraved on the back label — e.g. "Ring Wired Doorbell Pro" or "Battery Doorbell Pro (2nd Gen)."
-
2Check the Ring app
Open the Ring app → tap the menu (three lines, upper left) → select your device → Device Settings → General Settings → Device Details. The full model name appears here.
-
3Check your original packaging or order confirmation
Your Amazon order email or Ring.com receipt lists the full product name — often the easiest way if you still have it.

Once you have the model name, the next most important thing is understanding the power type. This affects installation, mounting bracket design, and which collection to shop at DoorbellMount.com.
🔋 Battery Models — What to Look For
Battery Ring doorbells come in two sub-types:
- Removable battery (Ring 2, 3, 4, Battery Plus, Battery Pro, new 2nd Gen Plus & Pro): The battery pack slides or pops out from the bottom or back. You never need to remove the whole doorbell to charge. Look for a visible battery slot or release tab.
- Integrated (non-removable) battery (Ring Gen 2 / 2020, new Battery Doorbell 2nd Gen base model): No battery pack slides out. To charge, remove the entire unit from its bracket and plug into USB. Look for a charging port directly on the back of the unit body.
⚡ Wired Models — What to Look For
Wired Ring doorbells have no battery at all. They must be connected to your home's low-voltage doorbell wiring (8–24VAC). Two small wire terminals on the back are where the wires connect. The Elite is the exception — it uses a single Ethernet port for Power over Ethernet (PoE).
Common mistake: Customers with a Wired Doorbell Plus or Pro sometimes look for a charging port or battery. There isn't one. If yours isn't working, check your wiring and transformer — not the doorbell.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Ring Pro 2 the same as Ring Wired Doorbell Pro?
Yes. Ring renamed the Video Doorbell Pro 2 to Wired Doorbell Pro. Same device, same mounting pattern. If your box or invoice says "Pro 2," select Wired Doorbell Pro when ordering your mount.
What's new about the 3rd Gen Wired Doorbell Pro?
Ring's newest Wired Doorbell Pro (3rd Gen, 2025) adds Retinal 4K with 10x Enhanced Zoom, Low-Light Sight for true color in near-dark conditions, and includes the new Chime Kit Mini. It's a redesigned form factor from the previous Pro 2 (now called 1st Gen Wired Doorbell Pro) — contact us to confirm mount compatibility with photos if you have this model.
Does the Ring Wired Doorbell Plus have a battery?
No. Despite sounding similar to the Battery Doorbell Plus, the Wired Doorbell Plus runs exclusively on hardwired power. There is no battery to charge or replace. If yours isn't working, check your wiring and transformer.
Can the new Battery Doorbell (2nd Gen) use a removable battery?
No. The base Battery Doorbell 2nd Gen has an integrated battery. Only the Plus and Pro 2nd Gen versions have removable Quick Release battery packs — and this difference means different mounting brackets between those models.
What is "Retinal" video technology?
Retinal is Ring's new AI-enhanced camera platform that continuously tunes image quality for sharper, more true-to-life video. "Retinal 4K" is the sharpest tier; "Retinal 2K" is a significant step up from the old 1080p/1536p models.
