Apple's Doorbell Is Official: LG Video Doorbell Wired for Apple Home — Specs, Price, Release Date & Compatible Mounts

Updated October 14, 2026. After almost two years of rumors, Apple's doorbell is official. On October 13, 2026, Apple announced the Apple Home Collection, a lineup of smart home accessories built with LG Electronics and Schneider Electric. The doorbell in that lineup is the LG Video Doorbell Wired for Apple Home: a wired, dual-camera doorbell priced at $249.95, sold through Apple, and set up and controlled entirely from the Apple Home app.

This guide covers what Apple actually announced, how it compares with the Face ID doorbell that was rumored, what the wiring and installation requirements are, and which DoorbellMount.com universal mounts will fit it when it ships in December.

Quick Answer

Apple's new doorbell is the LG Video Doorbell Wired, part of Apple Home Collection. It costs $249.95, ships in December 2026 in the U.S., Canada and the UK, comes in Essence Graphite and Essence Silver, and requires existing 16–24V doorbell wiring (no battery option). It has a 2.5K front camera plus a second full-HD downward camera for packages, a built-in spotlight, Thread and dual-band Wi-Fi, an IP65 rating, and stores 10 days of event video in iCloud+ with no separate camera subscription. There is no Face ID unlock; that feature did not ship. DoorbellMount.com universal-fit mounts are expected to fit it once we confirm the factory bracket in December.

What Apple Announced on October 13, 2026

Apple did not release an Apple-branded doorbell. Instead, it introduced Apple Home Collection, a set of accessories that Apple helped design and engineer but that carry LG and Schneider Electric branding. The lineup includes:

  • LG Video Doorbell Wired – $249.95
  • LG Smart Deadbolt Lock – $349.95
  • LG Floodlight Cam – $399.95
  • LG Outdoor Cam Plug-In – $299.95
  • LG Indoor Cam Plug-In – $199.95
  • LG Smart Thermostat and Schneider Home Smart Thermostat – $199.95 each
  • LG and Schneider temperature sensors – $39.95 each

All of these pair with an iPhone with a single tap, need no separate app or account, and are managed through the Home app. They are designed to work with Apple's new HomeView smart display, the new HomePod mini, and Apple TV 4K, which were announced the same day.

The Face ID Doorbell Rumor vs. What Shipped

The doorbell story started in December 2024, when Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reported that Apple was developing a smart doorbell with Face ID that would recognize residents and wirelessly unlock a connected deadbolt. Later leaks added MagSafe mounting, a custom Apple wireless chip, and a late-2025 or 2026 release window.

Most of that did not happen, at least not in this first product:

Rumored What Apple actually announced
Apple-branded doorbell LG-branded doorbell, co-developed with Apple and sold by Apple
Face ID to unlock the door No Face ID unlock. The companion LG Smart Deadbolt uses Ultra Wideband to unlock as you approach with an iPhone or Apple Watch. The doorbell itself recognizes familiar faces for notifications, not for access.
MagSafe mounting Conventional mounting plate with screws
Battery or wireless power Wired only, 16–24V existing doorbell wiring
Late 2025 release Announced October 13, 2026, shipping December 2026

Gurman's reporting in October 2026 described this as Apple's "second-party" strategy: LG handles manufacturing, warranty and support, while Apple shapes the design, features and engineering. Whether an Apple-branded Face ID doorbell is still in development is unknown. For now, the LG Video Doorbell Wired is the Apple doorbell.

Dual Cameras for Visitors and Packages

The design follows the same idea as the eufy E340 and a few other recent doorbells: one forward camera for faces and a second camera aimed straight down at the porch floor. In the Home app you can switch between the front and bottom views. The front camera records at 2.5K, and the bottom camera records in full HD.

That second camera has a mounting consequence. A downward camera only sees the porch directly under the doorbell. If the doorbell is mounted on a side wall, deep inside brick, or behind a storm door frame, the bottom camera may be looking at trim or masonry rather than the package drop zone. Getting the doorbell out to the face of the wall and aimed at the approach path matters more with a dual-camera design than with a single wide-angle lens.

No Subscription, But You Need iCloud+ and a Home Hub

Apple is positioning this against Ring and Nest on privacy and subscription cost. There is no separate camera plan. Instead, recorded video lives in HomeKit Secure Video, which requires an iCloud+ plan: the 50GB plan supports one camera, 200GB supports five, and 2TB supports unlimited cameras. You also need an Apple Home hub, meaning HomeView, a HomePod, HomePod mini, or Apple TV 4K, to use recording and recognition features. On eligible iCloud+ plans, Apple Intelligence adds automatic video descriptions and natural-language search of footage.

For a household already paying for iCloud+ and already owning a HomePod or Apple TV, the doorbell's effective monthly cost is zero. For a household that owns neither, the hub and storage are real added costs that should be included in any comparison with a $4.99 Ring Solo plan.

Power and Installation Requirements

This is the single most important thing to check before ordering. The LG Video Doorbell Wired has no battery and requires existing doorbell wiring that delivers 16V to 24V. Apple's store listing states plainly that it requires existing doorbell wiring for power.

What that means in practice:

  • If you currently have a wired doorbell button and chime, you can likely swap it in. Verify your transformer is in the 16–24V range.
  • If you currently use a battery doorbell such as a Ring Battery Doorbell, Blink or eufy battery model, and there is no wiring behind it, this doorbell will not work without running wire or adding a plug-in doorbell transformer.
  • Apple lists a mounting plate with three screws and three anchors, so it is a three-screw bracket rather than the two-screw pattern used by most Ring models. Existing holes from a previous doorbell will probably not line up.
  • Apple says the camera head can be angled during installation without additional accessories, so some aiming adjustment is built in. Apple has not published the range of that adjustment, and built-in wedges on competing doorbells are typically limited to 15–30°.

Apple Retail also offers paid professional installation through ADT in the U.S. in select areas.

⚠️ Wired doorbell safety

Turn off power to the doorbell transformer at the breaker before disconnecting the old doorbell or connecting the new one. Doorbell circuits are low voltage, but the transformer side is not, and a shorted transformer can be damaged.

Apple Home Doorbell vs Ring, Nest and eufy

Feature LG Video Doorbell Wired (Apple Home) Typical Ring / Nest / eufy wired doorbell
Price $249.95 $120–$300 depending on model
Resolution 2.5K front + full HD package camera 1080p to 4K; package camera on select eufy and Ring models
App Apple Home only (no LG app) Manufacturer app, with optional Alexa, Google or HomeKit
Subscription None beyond iCloud+ Usually $3–$10/month for cloud recording; eufy supports local storage
Hub required Yes: HomeView, HomePod or Apple TV Usually no (eufy HomeBase optional)
Android support No Yes
Power Wired only Wired and battery versions available
Weather rating IP65 Typically IP65 or similar

Who this doorbell is for

Anyone deep in the Apple ecosystem who already owns a HomePod or Apple TV, pays for iCloud+, and wants a doorbell with no third-party app, no third-party account and no extra subscription. It also makes sense for buyers pairing it with the LG Smart Deadbolt Lock, since Apple designed the two to work as one front-door system in the Home app.

Who should look elsewhere

Android households, anyone without doorbell wiring who does not want to add a transformer, and anyone who does not want to buy an Apple Home hub. Existing HomeKit-compatible doorbells from eufy, Arlo and others remain options for Apple users who want battery power or a lower price.

Will DoorbellMount.com Mounts Fit the Apple Home Doorbell?

Yes. Our universal-fit mounts are designed to hold the factory mounting bracket of any video doorbell, and we will add the LG Video Doorbell Wired to our model selector as soon as we can measure a production unit in December. Our mounts solve the exact problems this doorbell is most likely to run into:

  • A three-screw bracket that does not match the two old holes from a Ring or Nest.
  • Brick or stone that recesses the doorbell and blocks the package camera.
  • A side-wall installation where the built-in angle adjustment is not enough.
  • Narrow door trim that is smaller than the LG mounting plate.
  • Vinyl or aluminum siding that tilts the doorbell toward the ground.
  • A gang box or old intercom opening behind the doorbell.

All DoorbellMount.com mounts are made to order in the USA from outdoor-rated PETG, and wired mounts include a wire pass-through for the 16–24V doorbell wiring this model requires.

Frequently Asked Questions About the Apple Home Doorbell

Did Apple release a doorbell?

Yes, in a sense. On October 13, 2026, Apple announced the LG Video Doorbell Wired as part of Apple Home Collection. It is co-developed with Apple and sold by Apple, but branded and manufactured by LG Electronics.

How much does the Apple Home doorbell cost?

$249.95 in the U.S.

When is the Apple doorbell release date?

Apple says Apple Home Collection availability begins in December 2026 at apple.com, the Apple Store app and Apple Store locations, with some accessories arriving in early 2027.

Does the Apple doorbell have Face ID?

No. The Face ID unlock feature from the 2024 rumors did not ship. The doorbell recognizes familiar faces for notifications, and the companion LG Smart Deadbolt Lock unlocks via Ultra Wideband as you approach with an iPhone or Apple Watch.

Is the Apple Home doorbell battery powered?

No. It is wired only and requires existing 16V to 24V doorbell wiring.

Does the Apple doorbell require a subscription?

There is no separate camera subscription. Recorded video uses HomeKit Secure Video, which requires an iCloud+ plan (50GB for one camera, 200GB for five, 2TB for unlimited) and an Apple Home hub such as HomeView, HomePod or Apple TV 4K.

Does it work with Android or Alexa?

No. It is set up with an iPhone and controlled through the Apple Home app only.

What is the Apple doorbell's resolution?

The front camera records at 2.5K and the downward package camera records in full HD.

Is the Apple Home doorbell weatherproof?

It is rated IP65 for dust and rain protection.

Will a Ring or Nest mount fit the LG Video Doorbell Wired?

Do not assume it will. The LG doorbell uses its own three-screw mounting plate. Select a universal-fit mount, or wait for the LG Video Doorbell Wired to appear in our model selector in December.

Can I mount it on brick or a side wall?

Yes. Our brick extensions move the doorbell out to the face of the brick, and our 15–90° swivel mounts turn it toward the approach path from a side wall. Both are available with universal-fit selection.

Final Thoughts

The Apple doorbell rumor ended somewhere different from where it started. Instead of a Face ID, MagSafe, Apple-branded device, Apple shipped a carefully specified LG doorbell that lives entirely inside the Home app. For Apple households, the pitch is strong: dual cameras, no third-party account, no extra subscription, end-to-end encryption, and a lock designed to work with it.

The two things most likely to trip up buyers are the same as with any wired doorbell: power and physical fit. Confirm you have 16–24V doorbell wiring before ordering, and plan the mounting location so both the front camera and the downward package camera actually see the porch. A universal-fit swivel mount, brick extension or adapter plate from DoorbellMount.com will handle the rest.

We will update this article with measurements and confirmed model-specific fitment once we have a production unit in December 2026.
