How to Install and Mount the LG Video Doorbell Wired: Wiring, Placement, and Camera Angle

Installing the LG Video Doorbell Wired includes checking the power supply, preparing and mounting the unit, connecting the low-voltage wiring, and securing the device. This model requires a compatible power supply and a mounting plate with an adjustable camera head. First, ensure the circuit is in place and select an appropriate location. Then fix the plate, attach the electrical and mechanical chimes per LG's instructions, turn on the power, and verify the live image. Move the camera angle and lock the doorbell.  Always turn off the correct circuit and confirm it's de-energised before working with wires. Have a professional electrician install the supply or wiring if you don't use it.

What Should You Check Before Installing the LG Video Doorbell Wired?

Here are the 3 things you should check before installing the LG Video Doorbell Wired:

  1. Check the Doorbell Power Supply: Confirm that the existing transformer provides LG's required dedicated 16–24 VAC, 30 VA supply. Always confirm the transformer is used, and don't assume the old doorbell transformer is suitable. Do not connect a doorbell to 110 V or a missing power source. Have a licensed electrician check what is needed before you start if the voltage is low-voltage doorbell, or you can't confirm the doorbell wiring voltage.
  2. Check Existing Wiring and Chime: Check for damaged insulation, corrosion, and conductor length. Check whether the unit has a mechanical chime and which terminals connect to the doorbell. Take pictures of the current connections before disconnecting anything or before installing. Turn off the electricity when checking the wiring. Have the chime diagrammed rather than guessing the connections if you don't have the wiring diagram.
  3. Preparation of Work Area and Tools: Collect the LG mounting plate, screws, appropriate wall anchors, extension wires, jumper wire, wire nuts, bottom fixing screw and supplied wrench. A manually operated Phillips screwdriver, level, appropriate drilling equipment and an electrical tester are also helpful. Select anchors based on the wall material. LG doesn't recommend using a power screwdriver for one assembly. Turn off the circuit (the breaker) before working on the existing doorbell, and if you're unsure, confirm it's de-energized. Call a qualified electrician if you're unsure about safe isolation and whether testing is required.

How to Place and Install the LG Video Doorbell Wired?

Here are the 3 ways to place and install the LG Video Doorbell Wired:

  1. Choose an Installation Location: Place the LG Video Doorbell Wired in an accessible location near the entry, preferably near existing low-voltage wiring and in a good wireless area. Consider how visitors enter, where they drop off packages, nearby obstructions, and the door swing direction. Don't place it where the camera view is obstructed; instead, base placement on a clear view of the front door and doorstep. The goal is to get a clear shot of the entrance and delivery area without having to install the device.
  2. Check the Wall or Door trim surface: Make sure the surface is sturdy enough to hold the plate and doorbell. Each type of wood, brick, siding, and door trim requires the right fasteners and, where needed, enough depth, and the surface must have clearance for the device body and wiring. Place the provided LG mounting plate on the surface, verify its direction, and mark where it should be attached. Don't expect holes or brackets from other brands to match this one. Narrow or uneven surfaces require a mounting solution tested for the device and that specific surface.
  3. Level and Secure the Mounting Plate: Place the provided plate into position and secure it with a level to ensure it is straight. Identify fixing points, drill holes, and install anchors based on the wall material. Pass the existing low-voltage wires through the hole in the middle of the plate. Use a manual screwdriver to tighten the mounting screws carefully and ensure that the plate is not rocking. Leave enough wire length for the next connection step, but avoid tucking conductors behind the plate.

How Do You Connect the LG Video Doorbell Wiring and Mechanical Chime?

Switch off the circuit and make sure it is de-energized before disconnecting the old doorbell. Take pictures of the original connections, remove the old button if needed, then identify the conductors before reconnecting. Install using LG's wiring diagram. LG's instructions recommend inserting the included jumper between the TRANS and FRONT terminals, or between the equivalent ones if the doorbell is already in place. Once the jumper is secure, replace the chime cover. This bypass does not ensure the original mechanical chime sounds as it did before installation. It is for chimes and wiring sets that are not commonly used.

Connect LG's back wires to the doorbell's back wires using the included screws. Use wire nuts to join the low-voltage extensions to the existing wires, following LG's diagram, and leave no bare conductor exposed. Gently insert the connections into the hole in the wall, ensuring no wires are strained or pinched. Temporarily seat the doorbell on its mounting plate; until you confirm the camera angle, do not insert the bottom locking screw. Stop and contact LG support or a qualified electrician if the connection differs from the manufacturer's connection diagram.

How Do You Restore Power and Check the LG Doorbell After Wiring?

Test connections and temporarily install the doorbell; restore power at the doorbell breaker. Use LG's supported setup process and use the supported app (Apple Home or LG ThinQ) to open Live View. Check that the device is on and connected to the network. View both from the front and from the lower doorstep to verify the desired areas are in the live image. Briefly test the doorbell button and two-way audio. Keep in mind a mechanical chime that was previously working is not functioning afterwards. Refer to LG's official doorbell troubleshooting instead of guessing about electrical changes if the doorbell still doesn't turn on or connect.
