Why Ring's Doorbell Names Are So Confusing — And What's New for 2025 & 2026
Ring has rebranded, refreshed, and re-released its doorbell lineup multiple times since 2014. Each generation arrives with a new name (sometimes for the same body!), and 2025 and 2026 brought some of the biggest changes yet — including Ring's first 4K Retinal Vision doorbells and a complete refresh of the entire battery line in March 2026. This guide is your one-stop reference for identifying every current Ring doorbell and finding the right mount for it.

The Original Reference: Ring's 2024 Lineup (Pre-Update)
Below are the battery and wired Ring doorbells as they were named in 2024. These charts are still valuable because most are still in active use — and many of these models are still sold today under their renamed labels.

Battery doorbell lineup as of early 2024. Battery Doorbell Pro/Plus have removable batteries, while older 1st/2nd Gen units have integrated batteries and are charged on the bracket.

Important Naming Notes That Still Trip People Up
- Ring 2 vs. Ring Gen 2: "Ring 2" (older) has a removable battery; "Ring Gen 2" / "Battery Doorbell" (2020-2024) has an integrated battery. They're not the same — and use different mounts.
- "Ring Pro" can mean three different doorbells: the original Pro (2017, flat back with ridges), the Pro 2 (2021, curved back), or the new Pro 3rd Gen (2025, 4K Retinal). Each has unique dimensions and a different mount.
- Wired Doorbell Plus = old Video Doorbell Pro: Ring renamed the "Video Doorbell Pro" (2017) to "Wired Doorbell Plus" in 2024, leaving the door open for newer "Pro" models above it.
- Wired Doorbell Pro = old Video Doorbell Pro 2: The 2021 "Pro 2" was renamed to "Wired Doorbell Pro" — until that name was reassigned again in 2025 to the new 4K Retinal model. The Pro 2 is now positioned as the "older Wired Pro."
2025: Ring Goes 4K — The Retinal Vision Revolution
2025 marked the biggest visual-quality upgrade in Ring's history with the introduction of Retinal 4K Vision, 10× Enhanced Zoom, and Low-Light Sight powered by AI. Ring also added Ring AI Pro Smart Notifications and improved Wi-Fi 6 connectivity.

Not Sure Which Ring Doorbell You Have?
Ring's naming conventions have changed multiple times. The fastest way to confirm your model: open the Ring app → tap your doorbell → Device Settings → Device Health. The exact model name is shown there. You can also check the back of the doorbell for the model code (often near the FCC label).
Still confused? Send us a picture of your doorbell back at shop@doorbellmount.com or text 1-833-326-6868 — we'll confirm the exact model and recommend the right mount before you buy.
Why Mount Compatibility Matters With Each New Generation
Even when Ring keeps the same product name across generations, the body shape often changes — different curve, different screw spacing, different back-clip pattern. This is why a mount that fit your old "Battery Doorbell Plus" likely won't fit the 2nd Gen Battery Doorbell Plus released in 2026, even though they share a name. We track every body change at DoorbellMount.com and produce dedicated mounts within weeks of each new Ring release.
