Most older intercom stations mount to standard 1-, 2-, or 3-gang electrical boxes. When the intercom is removed but the box behind the drywall is left intact, this universal cover plate bolts directly to the existing electrical box screw pattern.

2-Piece Construction
The Custom Large 10x6, Custom Large 12x8 option(s) are too tall to print as a single piece, so they ship as two halves with a horizontal seam across the middle of the plate. The two halves screw together using small screws included in the hardware kit.
- You will see a small horizontal seam at the join where the two halves meet. The seam is structural, not a defect.
- Painting the plate after assembly minimizes the visual appearance of the seam.
- For outdoor installs, apply a thin bead of clear silicone or paintable acrylic caulk along the seam line to seal out moisture.
- Once screwed together, the plate behaves like a single rigid piece.
How to Measure Your Old Box
Sizing Rule — The Plate Must Overlap the Wall Opening
Measure the wall opening — the hole cut in the drywall or siding, not the metal box behind it. The plate has to bridge that opening and land on solid wall all the way around, or it has nothing to sit against and will sink into the hole.

Add 0.25" to 0.5" of overlap per side. Because every side gains, that works out to 0.5" to 1" added to the total height and width.

Example: a 6" x 4" wall opening means ordering somewhere between 6.5" x 4.5" and 7" x 5".

Going bigger is always safe. Extra size hides paint lines, wallpaper edges, and the ghost outline the old unit left behind. Nobody has ever complained that a plate covered too much.
The easy shortcut: most people simply order the plate the same size as their old intercom faceplate. If the old unit covered the opening cleanly, matching its outside dimensions will too — and you skip the math entirely.
Two measurements to take: the screw-hole center-to-center distance (so we drill them in the right spot), and the wall-opening height × width (so we know how big to make the plate). See the schematics below.

Remove the old intercom faceplate — usually 2 or 4 screws around the edge. Don't worry about the wires, just leave them tucked behind.

Measure the wall opening (height × width) — this is the hole in the drywall, not the box. The plate needs 0.25" to 0.5" of overlap on every side, which adds 0.5" to 1" to the total height and width.

Measure the screw hole center-to-center distance — the existing screws or threaded inserts that held the old intercom. Vertical AND horizontal spacing matters.

Decide on hole style (4 choices): (a) Countersunk Round Holes for exact vertical-mounted spacing; (b) Vertical Slots for vertical-mounted +/- 0.125 inch tolerance; (c) Horizontal Axis Mounting for sideways-mounted intercoms; (d) 4-Corner Screws if your original screw holes are unusable (stripped, lost, drilled into mortar) - the plate gets 4 corner holes instead and you mount it to the wall/frame/brick around your old box. 4-Corner Screws requires a plate at least 1 inch wider AND taller than your old opening - add about 1 inch to each dimension when you enter your size.

Blank - Countersunk Mounting Screws Only — Just the cover plate with countersunk screw holes to mount it to your wall. No doorbell pilot holes and no wire pass-through hole. Pick this for a clean cover with nothing else attached.

Doorbell Pilot Holes (No Wire Pass-Through) — Pre-drilled pilot holes for mounting a video doorbell directly to the plate. No center hole for wire pass-through, so wires must enter from behind the wall (or the doorbell is wireless/battery). Doorbell mounting screws included.

Mounting Hole Style (Option 3)
Three choices for how the cover-plate mounting screws are oriented and shaped. Match this to how your old intercom was installed:

Countersunk Round Holes (Vertical Axis) — Round, countersunk holes precision-printed at the nominal screw center-to-center spacing (countersunk for flat-head mounting screws so they sit flush). Screw spacing is on the VERTICAL axis - top and bottom - matching intercoms mounted upright. Pick this if your measurement is exact and your old intercom was mounted vertically.

Vertical Slots (Vertical Axis) — Each screw hole is a 0.25 inch vertical slot instead of a round hole. Gives you 0.125 inch of wiggle room up and 0.125 inch down if your old screw spacing is slightly off from the nominal. Still on the VERTICAL axis. Recommended when you are not 100% sure of the measurement.

Horizontal Axis Mounting (Sideways Intercom) — For old intercoms that were mounted SIDEWAYS - the plate mounting screw holes are on the HORIZONTAL axis (left-right) instead of the standard vertical axis. If you pick this AND a Doorbell Pilot Holes cutout option, the doorbell pilot holes will be oriented on the VERTICAL axis so a modern doorbell still installs upright.

4-Corner Screws (For No Old Holes) — For when the original intercom screw holes are NOT usable - stripped, lost, drilled into mortar, or the wood/threaded inserts are gone. Instead of matching your old screw spacing, the plate gets 4 screw holes located 0.25 inch from each corner. You screw through these into the wall, frame, or brick AROUND your old box opening. Requires a plate at least 1 inch wider AND taller than your original box opening so the corner screws have material to bite into. Pick the Larger plate size for any model when you select this option.

Installation
Tools needed: #2 Phillips driver. Drill optional. Painter's caulk optional. Multi-tester (only if any wires inside the box might be live).
What's in the box: Cover plate (1 or 2 pieces depending on size), 2-4 black flat-head countersunk #6 mounting screws for attaching the plate to your wall, and if you picked either Doorbell Pilot Holes cutout option, the matching doorbell mounting screws. 2-piece plates also include 2-3 small screws for the seam join.

Turn off power at the breaker if any wires inside the box are live.

Standard Gang Sizes, and What To Do When Yours Is Not Standard
This listing exists for openings defined by an electrical box rather than by a brand of intercom - and for the very common case where the box is standard but the hole around it is not.
Standard trim sizes: single-gang at 4.5" x 2.75" or jumbo at 5.5" x 3.5"; double-gang at 4.562" x 4.5" or jumbo at 5.5" x 5.5"; triple-gang jumbo at 7.5" x 5.5". Screw spacing is 3.281" for single-gang and 3.281" vertical by 1.81" horizontal for double.
The reason most people land here is that the drywall opening got cut oversized, or an old device left an outline a standard plate cannot hide. That is what the larger sizes are for - 8" x 6", 10" x 6" and 12" x 8" all print in one piece while still screwing to the standard box behind.

Will this cover my gang box?
Yes. Enter the size you need and it covers single, double or triple gang openings, or any in-between size a standard plate misses. Standard 1-gang trim is about 4.5 x 2.75, 2-gang about 4.5 x 4.5625 - but you are not limited to those. Measure your opening, add overlap, and type the numbers in. What sizes can I actually order?
Any size from 3 to 16 inches on either side, entered as decimals. Height and width are set independently, so 3 x 3, 6.25 x 4, 7.5 x 5.5 and 16 x 16 are all normal orders. You are never rounding to the nearest listed size.
What size plate should I order?

What mounting hole layouts can I choose?
Five. 2 Holes - Vertical Axis is the default, countersunk top and bottom at the spacing you type, matching how nearly every intercom was installed. 2 Holes - Horizontal Axis for a unit that was mounted sideways. Vertical Slots turn each hole into a 1/4-inch slot with about 0.125 inch of play. 4-Corner Screws when the original holes are stripped, lost or drilled into mortar. No Mounting Holes gives a completely blank plate you drill yourself.
How exact does my screw spacing need to be?
Type the center-to-center measurement as a decimal - 5.25, 4.56, 3.28 - and we print it exactly as entered. The spacing box only appears when you have asked for two holes - choose No Mounting Holes and it disappears. If you are within 0.125 inch or not fully sure, pick Vertical Slots for tolerance, or 4-Corner Screws to skip the old holes entirely.
My old intercom was mounted sideways. Can you match that?
Yes. Choose 2 Holes - Horizontal Axis and the wall screws go left and right instead of top and bottom. If you also order doorbell pilot holes, those stay on the vertical axis so a modern doorbell still installs upright.
Do I need the center wire pass-through hole?
Only if wires have to come out through the face of the plate. Hardwired doorbells fed from behind the wall usually need it. Battery doorbells and dead capped-off intercom wiring do not. It is a simple yes or no and works with any hole layout.
What are doorbell pilot holes and do I need them?
Pilot holes are pre-drilled holes on the face so a video doorbell screws straight onto the plate. Say yes and a box appears for the doorbell make and model, so we drill the right pattern and include the matching screws. Using one of our mount bases instead? Type the mount name - for example "0-35 degree Swivel Base" - into that same box. Skip pilot holes if you only need a blank cover.
Will the plate hold up outdoors, and can I paint it?
Yes to both. Every plate is 3D-printed in UV-stabilized outdoor-grade PETG that will not yellow, fade or go brittle in sunlight, and handles -40F to 140F. Default finish is matte black, and PETG takes ordinary latex or acrylic paint after a light scuff-sand with 220-grit.
How is the 2-piece plate held together?
Anything over 12 inches in either dimension ships as two pieces with a horizontal seam, because it exceeds our printer bed. The halves are joined by a splice plate that screws to the back of the seam, with the screws included. It sits flat and solid on the wall; you will see a fine line at the joint from the front.
What are the standard gang box plate sizes?
Single-gang is 4.5 x 2.75 inches standard or 5.5 x 3.5 jumbo. Double-gang is 4.562 x 4.5 standard or 5.5 x 5.5 jumbo. Triple-gang jumbo is 7.5 x 5.5. Screw spacing is 3.281 inches for single-gang, and 3.281 vertical by 1.81 horizontal for double-gang.
My drywall opening was cut too big for a standard plate. What do I order?
This is the most common reason people use this listing. Order oversized - 8 x 6, 10 x 6 or 12 x 8 all print in one piece and still screw to the standard box behind. Enter the gang spacing for your box and size the plate to cover the damage.
Can this mount to the box and cover a much larger area?
Yes. The screw spacing and the plate size are separate entries, so you can enter 3.281 inch single-gang spacing and still order a 12 x 8 plate. It fastens to the existing box while covering everything around it.
