The VDB-780B is the answer for Alarm.com customers who don't have existing doorbell wiring. The 9540mAh battery lasts ~6 months per charge — solid for a 1080p doorbell — and you keep the same Alarm.com central station integration that the wired VDB-770/750 customers get. The 160° vertical / 90° horizontal aspect (taller than wide) is well-suited to seeing both the visitor's face AND a package on the doormat in a single frame.

This 0-35° dual-axis swivel mount rotates the VDB-780B in any direction up to 35°, locks permanently with set screws, and keeps the rear charging port + battery compartment accessible for periodic recharging. Locked aim is essential for pro-monitored installs — drift can register as a tamper event with your Alarm.com central station.

Customization & Add-Ons

Installing on the Alarm.com VDB-780B

  1. Plug In the ADC-W115C Smart Chime First: The VDB-780B doesn't ring without the separate Smart Chime. Plug it into an indoor outlet within Wi-Fi range and pair to your network before mounting the doorbell.
  2. Charge the Doorbell: Charge the internal battery fully via the included USB-C cable (~6 hours). The first charge takes longer than subsequent ones.
  3. Coordinate With Your Alarm Dealer: Pro-monitored installs: call your dealer for a 1-hour test mode to avoid tamper triggers during the swap.
  4. Mount the Base: Position vertical (the 5.3" body is taller than wide), secure with #6 screws (PH2 driver). Anchors as needed — no wires to route since it's battery-powered.
  5. Attach the Swivel: Screw onto the base with four #4 / PH1 center screws.
  6. Snap the VDB-780B In: Use the screws PROVIDED WITH THIS MOUNT (PH1 driver) — not Alarm.com's stock plate.
  7. Pair via Alarm.com: Open the Alarm.com app, Add Device → Video → scan the QR code on the doorbell. Or your dealer can adopt it remotely.
  8. Aim & Lock: Live View in the Alarm.com app → adjust the swivel until the 160° vertical frame catches the visitor face top + package zone bottom → tighten set screws.
  9. Confirm Pro-Monitoring: Take the panel out of test mode with your dealer.

Battery tip: 6-month battery life is rated at moderate use (5-10 motion events per day). Heavy traffic doorways will see the battery drop to ~3 months. If you have existing 16-24V doorbell wiring at the mount location, you can optionally trickle-charge the VDB-780B from those wires for indefinite battery life — wires route cleanly through this mount when configured that way.
