Confused which Vivint you have? The Gen 2 launched in 2022, has a square-ish 180×180 lens window, advertises proactive package guard with audio (the doorbell talks to delivery drivers), and is paired with newer Vivint Smart Hub installs. If yours is older/cylindrical with a smaller round lens, you have the Gen 1 — different mount.

The Vivint Doorbell Camera Pro Gen 2's killer feature isn't 1664p — it's the 180°×180° square coverage. Most doorbells give you 180° horizontally with a much smaller vertical view, which means you see the visitor's chest but not the package on the doormat. The Vivint catches everything from doormat to porch ceiling at the same time. Combined with proactive package guard (the doorbell speaks to delivery drivers automatically), it's the best single-doorbell anti-porch-pirate setup in the consumer space.

Square 180×180 only matters if both axes are aimed correctly. This 0-35° dual-axis swivel mount rotates the Vivint Gen 2 in any direction up to 35°, locks permanently with set screws, and routes the existing 16-24V wires cleanly through the joint. Locked aim is critical for pro-monitored alarm-system installs — drift can register as a tamper event with the central station.

Customization & Add-Ons

Installing on the Vivint Doorbell Camera Pro Gen 2

  1. Coordinate With Vivint Support: If your Vivint system is professionally monitored, call Vivint support before swapping the mount and request to put your panel on test mode for 1 hour. Replacing the doorbell can register as a tamper event and trigger central-station response.
  2. Power Down:
    Turn the breaker off at the chime circuit. Verify with a tester at the existing wires before pulling them through the mount.
  3. Verify Wiring: Confirm 16-24V AC at the doorbell location. Vivint requires hardwired power — no battery option.
  4. Mount the Base: Pull the doorbell wires through the hole in the swivel base, position vertical (Vivint Gen 2 is taller than wide — vertical orientation is most natural), secure with #6 screws (PH2 driver). Anchors as needed.
  5. Attach the Swivel: Route the wires through the swivel center, attach to the base with four #4 / PH1 center screws.
  6. Connect & Mount the Vivint: Connect the two doorbell-circuit wires to the Vivint's screw terminals. Snap onto the bracket using the screws PROVIDED WITH THIS MOUNT (PH1 driver) — not Vivint's stock plate.
  7. Pair to Vivint Smart Hub: Restore power. The Gen 2 should auto-rejoin your existing Vivint Smart Hub — if it doesn't, your Vivint tech can re-pair it remotely (since you're a service customer).
  8. Aim & Lock: Live View in the Vivint app → adjust the swivel until the 180×180 frame catches both the package zone (bottom) AND the visitor face (top) → tighten the set screws.
  9. Confirm Pro-Monitoring: Call Vivint to take your panel out of test mode. Confirm tamper detection still works on the doorbell.

Vivint service tip: the Doorbell Camera Pro Gen 2 only works with an active Vivint Smart Home subscription. If you cancel Vivint, the doorbell becomes inert (no app, no live view, no recordings). If you're switching alarm providers, plan to swap the doorbell too — Alarm.com VDB-770/780B and Ring/Nest/Eufy are common alternatives.
