• Fiber cement chips at the bit, can crack the plank, and leaves a raw edge that wicks water — this bracket slides into the lap joint and hooks the board above instead

Frequently Asked Questions

Do these really install without drilling into the siding?

Yes. The mount slides up under the bottom edge of a siding board and locks against the board above, so it is held by the siding itself. The only screws in the package go into the mount's own plastic — none go into your wall or your siding.

How do I tell whether I have vinyl or Hardie siding?

Tap it. Vinyl is hollow, light and flexes; you can usually lift the bottom edge of a board slightly with your fingers. Hardie and other fiber cement board is rigid and dense, sounds like concrete, and will not flex at all. If you are still unsure, send us a photo and we will tell you.

What size should I order?

Measure the exposed face of one siding board — bottom edge of one board up to the bottom edge of the board above it. Most American lap siding measures 4", 6" or 8", which maps to our 3–5", 5.5–7.5" and 7–8.5" sizes. The Hardie mount is one size and fits standard horizontal cement board lap siding.

Will a no-drill mount hold a camera securely?

It will. The bracket wraps the siding seam over several inches and is locked in place, so the load is spread across the board rather than concentrated on a screw. Our mounts are built for video doorbells and outdoor cameras in the usual 4–16 oz range, which covers every Ring, Arlo, Eufy, Blink, Nest, Wyze and SimpliSafe unit we know of.

Will it damage my siding?

No. There are no holes and no adhesive. The mount rests in the seam that already exists between two boards. Take it off and the wall looks exactly as it did before — which is why these are popular with renters and with anyone still under a siding warranty.

Does it work with Dutch lap siding?

Yes. Dutch lap has a deeper profile at the top of each board but the same seam at the bottom, which is what the mount grips. Order by the exposed board height as usual.

My doorbell or camera model is not listed — can you make one?

Very likely. Everything here is 3D-printed to order, so a new adapter plate is a design change rather than a factory run. Email shop@doorbellmount.com with your model and we will tell you what we can do — we add new siding mounts most weeks.
